How much are you paying for layer pellets?

Last 50 lb. bag of organic lay pellets cost us $25.95 at the local purina dealer. I'm fairly certain I can find a better price out here though and at $25 a bag I really need to think about doing it.

$25 for 50# Blue Seal organic layer pellets or when my friend buys local by the ton for her birds I get 50 # organic layer mash for $20 but mine prefer the pellets so i have been mixing lately.

southern states all grain layer/breeder pellets $9 to $11 depending on which feed store you stop at. im surprised matt is the only other one besides me to feed their chickens southern states. i tried purina (i really like their dog food) but the chickens would get tired of it and waste it. dumar chick starter is ok but still prefer the southern states medicated chick starter.

I have tried other feeds. Most the birds won't touch, even when it is the only feed for several days. I had some really hunger birds when I switched back.

The cheapest is Circle M and the birds absolutely won't touch it. I don't like the smell of it either. Smells like stale grain.

For Starter I only use Medicated Southern States. 2 years ago I seperated out a group of 12 chicks from a batch of 55 and put them on Purina starter. They grew slower and just didn't look as healthy as the ones on SS. I will never try it again.

I dont feed a Layer feed to my layers. I feed a Starter/ Grower to all the birds (chicks, growers, breeders and layers) I give a Vitamin/Mineral mix to the Breeders and layers..
Kalmbach 22% protein Starter/ Grower is $11.00 a 50# bag as of yesterday...
