How much do baby chicks eat?

We just got 6 baby chicks, they are a few days old. We got them to drink water first, then put the feeder in with them. In less than 24 hrs. they went through 2 cups of food. Some was spilled, but not much. We took the feeder out last night and put it back this AM. Is this normal? Should we leave the feeder in there all the time?

Yes leave food for them 24-7.

They'll eat what they need, and they need a lot. don't ration food for chickens.

To give you an idea, I have 5 chicks that are a little over a week old, and they eat/spill about 1quart of food per day.
