How much do quail eat?

my quail eat about an 8oz cup or more of food per 3 birds in a day, sometimes they eat more sometimes less. I just have those clear disposable glasses and I keep more feed by them, I feed them in the morning and in the evening and if their feeders are empty I feed them more. I do occasionally supplement hard boiled eggs chopped up and sometimes green grass or dandelion greens.

So if I got a bobwhite pair it would cost me alot to feed them? Thats great! Might bother my mom for just ONE more thing

lol.

Well, I wont be able to get any in spring. Im getting new ducklings so thats a bigger feed bill already, but after I cut back I might get two. By fall I will have 8 ducks 4 or 6 chickens and 2 geese. Do you think it would add on to my feed bill to much?!

Nah not much, a bag of feed varies, about 12-16 bucks depending on what you get.

Do you sell eggs? From what I can tell you are younger and live at home with your family? Now is the perfect time to start your own fresh egg business from your ducks or chickens if your parents will let you do that, you can sell hatching eggs and fresh eggs to people who want to eat them, from what I read you keep chickens and ducks? I dont take orders for eggs or anything, I just let friends know when I have some for sale and between my usual 10-12 people that buy them someone will pick them up.

You sound like your head is in the right place so I thought I would mention selling eggs, disregard if you already do that, I only mention it because that is how I help supplement food costs for all my critters.

I have 25 standard chickens ( 14 of which are egg laying aged pullets ) 3 semi grown silkie chickens, 6 baby silkies, about 25 coturnix quail ( plus a bunch of eggs in my incubator right now ) 2 pheasants, 10 pigeons, and an Australian Shepherd lol I know what you mean about food trust me lol. In a week I sell about 4-6 dozen chicken eggs for $1.50 a dozen, and sometimes I sell a couple dozen quail eggs for $2.50 - $3.00 a dozen

I usually only make $6-10 a week from selling the eggs but that is a few more bucks than I would have made if I didnt sell them and $10 will almost buy a bag of feed, if I sell that much every week then that is 3 bags of feed or so I can buy a month just on money from my eggs. When I incubate chicks I also sell a few of them to make up some money but if you are like me you will always drag another critter home lol.

You are very smart for thinking about things before you get them, I commend you on that and we are here for you if you have any questions.

I agree 100% with Mo. Always do your figuring before you act. Thats how I spend most of my spare time, lol, and I usssually don't get what I figured on, but it's nice to know. Time "wasted" researching is not wasted time at all.

Yes, I keep ducks and chickens, and I will have two geese in spring. I will be selling eggs and hatchliIlng in spring, already have people wanting ducklings in spring, and that will cover next years feeding if they go through a buy them.

Im hopeing to be able to sell hatching/eating eggs in spring from my ducks. I keep chickens for eye candy, and broodies. Not for eating eggs, but I will sell eating eggs from them to. I have orpingtons and will soon have silkies for broodies and more eye candy.

and yes, I am young and live with my mom. She thinks its awesome how I care for the animals I have and can still figure out how to make money
