Hi guys, I know that once pullets start laying, their feed intake increase dramatically and can cost quite a bit to feed, but I can't find information on how much a rooster would consume once mature as I would like to keep 3 roosters in my flock but I'm on a tight budget. I did notice when I had a rooster for about 6 months a short while back that he didn't seem to make a big hole in my pocket. But with 3?

A rooster does not lay eggs (eats less), but is often bigger than a hen (eats more).

So I would guess that a rooster eats about as much food as a hen.

(That's a guess, because I don't know where to find accurate information on the subject.)

Rule of thumb is they'll eat at least as much as a hen the same size.
I'm guessing it's more like same weight.. as my first roo was the same weight as my smallest hen at around 2 kg (4.4 lbs) but as roos stand much more erect.. he was the same height as my biggest hen which was around 9 lbs. I don't think he ate very much... well he definitely didn't poo as much as the girls!

Yeaj, sorry, should have clarified that. Height isn't a matter here, just weight
