Adamd, there was a recent thread on the topic of "quiet" chickens so you might do a search on "quiet", "least noisy" or similar words an phrases to find it. Lots of folks responded with opinions about their quietist and noisiest chickens. (Try "noisiest" as well, then you will get a better idea about what breeds to avoid.)

I've got 13 chickens and they only stink if I skip cleaning the coop. Otherwise, they are no stinkier than any other pets.

Pass along a dozen eggs to the pesky nieghbors now and again to help soothe them into submission.

Everyday use a small rake to gather it and put in asmall waste pile.
