Mine want something everytime I walk out the door. They are worse than the kid's wanting cookies.

Ours don't eat that much, but I seem to be in the extreme minority in that respect. We truly free-range (not just the "has access to the outside loophole as Steve pointed out, but truly no fences and lots of varied terrain for them to roam) though, so that may very well be what makes the biggest difference in what we observe vs what others do. Mine eat more than the chickens of course, but they're larger birds and I find the difference in amount to be proportional to the difference in size. They're not parked out at the feeders all day and they don't eat for any longer than the other birds, just take bigger bites due to beak size. And they forage actively all day long.

Mine don't eat much either. The toms are out 24/7 and even though everything is a slushy muddcyle here they still don't seem to eat that much. My Beltsville small white hen doesn't either and she is cooped. I nabbed 2 bbw in the processor's parking lot to keep her company after a dog killed my other hen and after the first few days of whole grains they don't seem to be eating that much either. Chickens eat way more then turkeys at my place.

I have equal turkeys to chickens. Many of my chickens are good at foraging for 90% of there feed. My turkeys do not forage much. They eat at least 2/3 to 3/4 of the poultry feed. My feed bill runs about $250 a week.

How much do they eat? Too d*m* much. I love them, and goodness knows they taste MUCH better than store-bought, but they sure cost plenty to raise, even if they free-range all day long. It is a good thing they are so personable!
