how much do you feed your cornishX

Either the feed store peep made a boo boo or your husband misinterpreted his comment!...

True to form mine are 3 weeks old, have gained two pounds and are just short of finishing their second bag of feed...

25 kilo's = 110 pounds... divided by 21 days divided by 24 chicks.... .22 pounds per chick per day or 5 pounds per bird in three weeks... my god you'd have little bowling balls!

Now when they are older... maybe! But given that your birds probably came from the same hatchery... I would say yours are around the age of mine.

here is a good chart for you to see their daily intake vs their age in weeks. It does show that the last week has a potential of about 1/2 lb per day per bird. That stated, the store clerk was 50% right in that the last week his 50 could consume 25lbs of a 50lb bag.

We are shooting for butchering at 7-weeks, and therefore my 44 chicks would cumulatively consume (13.5 lb total each) 594lbs of food, or just shy of 12-50lb-bags of food ($120 cost for me based on my feed prices). I know this is just a reference chart the welp provides, but I think it will be pretty close and a good goal for me.

they are 6 weeks old and looking more and more delicious. They are just about the size of a full grown red hen if not a "bit" bigger right now. based on the size of my containers they will eat 8L of feed a day if I let them. and that is 12on/12off since i give them that in the morning and its gone by supper. Did I mention I have 20? you said you have 24 so its about the same except mine are older. but what you are saying is right for their age mine were eating their second bag at 3 weeks too. I wish there was a way i could free range them a bit. I give them all our table scraps too, providing there is no meat mixed in.
Nice to know there is someone from the same area as me on here

I looked at your chart, did some rough math, seems about right. it comes to something like 1/2lb a day each. it seems to stay pretty close to it until the end too
I guess we just freaked because we were buying one bag at a time, and didn't really pay attention to how much they ate

Hi there

I have another 50 coming on the 14th of June.... the initial order was for 25 (I slipped that one past the Mr.... lol) but we appeared to only get 24, we have one death by squishing last weekend.... so are down to 23 now.

I have 19 and 20.5 YO boys they are hungry.

BTW there are lots of eastern Canadians on hee.... there are two women just up the street from me here! lol

I dont measure the amounts I give them but I have 50 meat birds that we hatched on the 17th and they are well on there way through their 3rd bag of feed....each bag is 50lbs. I have not started restricting feed yet......I am very curious about all this milk talk though!

I didn't mean to hijack this thread with that. I should have started my own. If I do start one, I will PM you. It is an intersting subject I would like to expand upon and get feedback and expiriences from others.

I went and ordered 30 more. they will be here July 20th. i was worried 20 wouldn't be enough to get us through the winter (because we wont be purchasing any ground beef now that we have chicken
