Not sure if I have this in the right section of the forum or not but.....

How much money do you think that you are saving with chickens? Our family goes through usually a dozen eggs a week but by the time you calculate feed and housing costs for them is about 50 dollars a year that we are saving.

I am not saving anything. In fact, it costs me more. BUT, I know what they have eaten, what type of life they have, and the eggs are fresh.

saving? welp, i figure i'm thousands in the hole right about now and good for thousands more before i die!

taste, health benefits, compost for the garden and entertainment is what it's all about for me, honestly

Well if store bought eggs were as delicious as our free range girls' eggs - We'd be saving a LOT of money! But otherwise, you gotta consider feed costs too versus sales of eggs. Since our chickens are free range, they eat a lot less - But still. . . gonna have to take some more thinking on that.

Also, we're not doing too well yet on selling eggs, so. . . We're not saving much yet. We're not losing money either though.
