How much feed for Cornish Pigs?

I really feel stupid now! At first I thought it was strange you would buy 100 pigs. There is such a thing as cornish pigs and they had pictures of them and they were very nice. I feel like a fool now and I apologize for my stupidity.

Just a note: I have a friend that used to own a Tyson chicken house. He said he would go through 15 tons (30,000 lbs) of feed in 3 days. Of course that was for 20,000 chickens.

I was feeding mine 1/2 lb a day per bird. So guess I was right on the mark.....

1/2 lb equates to almost 10% of their body weight everyday. I know I couldn't eat 19.5 lbs of food a day......

I get a Food Conversion Ratio (FCR) on my cornish crosses of around 2.8-3.2. I let them free range a bit, which raises the FCR. I don't seem to gain anything back, since they don't forage much; but I feel better doing this than confining them.

Does that mean for every 2.8-3.2 pounds of feed they eat, they gain one pound? This chicken thing is getting very expensive for me, and they haven't even arrived yet! LOL I hope my 100 birds don't eat more than 1500 pounds of feed.

They probally will eat just about 1500lbs of feed if you let them get to 8(boys) or 9 (girls) weeks, especially if your feeders are too low and they can waste it on the ground. At my cornish rate, they will eat about 1100lbs of food. Good luck

I was just teasing about calling them cornish pigs.. they're just cornish crosses but like someone else said, I called them pigs cuz they eat like no tomorrow.

OMG, our 10 CC's truly eat like pigs, when we fill the feeder (three x's a day now), it's like Amazonian Piranhas attacking a bloody steak!

They are 2 weeks old and have gone through 25 pounds of feed so far. We will be opening up the next 25 pound bag today.
So far they've eaten 35 pounds so, doing a little math, (((35*16)/14)/10) = 4 ounces per bird per day.
Cost then is price of feed divided by pounds, then by ounces times the amount fed/eaten per bird
so: (((25/(35*16))*4)= .17 cents per bird so far.

Not bad, but at the rate we have to get feed- it seems so much more

Is 4 ounces per day for a 2 week old chick close to being right?
