How much feed will a chick eat before it's ready to eat layer feed? My sister asked me that, and now I'm curious.

That partly depends on breed and whether it's large or bantam, a big heavy bird or a Mediterranean, meat bird etc

  5. The so called duel purpose birds will eat an amazing amount of chicken feed, maybe as much as 1/2 a pound per day. Mediterranean egg laying breeds maybe only 4 ounces a day.

With a duel purpose breed you'll do well to get one large egg every other day while the Mediterranean breeds may present you with one large egg each and every day and on half as much feed as well.

I estimate 10# each other to get them to 10 weeks. After that around 2# a week. I always have a mix of DP and light breeds.
