How much feed will cornish x rocks eat before slaughter?

I butcher at about 8-9 weeks, and figure about 50 lbs per 4-5 birds.

Here, feed is more expensive, with each bag being about 20-24 for starter. That's normal stuff, not organic feeds.

purina is medicated - least the stores I called that were listed as dealers only had medicated. The flock feed is even medicated - what's with that??

I have called nearly every feed store within an hour - NO ONE carries unmedicated. However we did go by TSC tonight and it just happens our store carries the nonmedicated and only special orders the medicated

That's what I get for assuming the big boys would be less likely to carry what I want. We did decide we are probably going to start with medicated the first few weeks for broilers and layers (seeing as we already have it) then switch to dumor from TSC when it runs out.

Damn I thought $15 was bad! I can't imagine $24!!

I feed mine 26% game bird feed from hatch till slaughter. 12 on 12 off is a good idea. It also helps to keep them penned up in a small area so that they can't move around too much. They don't need to be burning off feed, being that it is so expensive.

If the medication is just amprol, don't worry about it. It is only a thiamine blocker that prevents cocci from reproducing. Doesn't stop them from getting an infestation of protozoa if the soil contains ALOT to start with. To build up an immunity though, do expose them to the dirt.

Not sure where you all live, but here in Kansas we have COOP farm stores in just about every little town around. And all of them carry feed, and it's normally close to half the price of getting it at Tractor Supply. Do a search for the closest COOP Farm store near you, I bet then will have what you are looking for and have it at a much better price.
