Crossing the Road
As far as a care plan, here is my plan: have the brooder ready before I pick up the chicks. Nice and warm, feed and water all in place. Some Sav-A-Chick in the water for the first day. Thermometer under the heat to be sure it is at least 95 degrees, that kind of thing is my plan for the babies. I do not buy all the feed at once, I just have a bag of starter on hand. It is good to know how much you will be buying, but I only get enough for the first month in advance. Since I usually order my chicks from the hatchrey or breeder in a box of 20 or 25, one bag of starter (50 pounds) on hand is what I have. That will last me for the first 3-4 weeks depending on how many chicks and how much they play with their food!
