How much food does 10 chicks go through in their first 10 weeks?

As far as a care plan, here is my plan: have the brooder ready before I pick up the chicks. Nice and warm, feed and water all in place. Some Sav-A-Chick in the water for the first day. Thermometer under the heat to be sure it is at least 95 degrees, that kind of thing is my plan for the babies. I do not buy all the feed at once, I just have a bag of starter on hand. It is good to know how much you will be buying, but I only get enough for the first month in advance. Since I usually order my chicks from the hatchrey or breeder in a box of 20 or 25, one bag of starter (50 pounds) on hand is what I have. That will last me for the first 3-4 weeks depending on how many chicks and how much they play with their food!

Thank you all so much! This helps me get an idea on the money I am investing into these birds.
It is always good to add in a "fudge factor" and not cut your estimate too close. A "Freedom Ranger" type of bird is a popular meat bird, and why I thought you might look at that site. There have been lots of good reference links here, too. Lots of people who get some chickens do not consider all the costs, so it is good your advisor is having you make a plan. There are some start-up costs for equipment and housing that you can re-use, too.
Then, save your receipts and figure out your actual costs, that is when you learn if your plan was successful and make a new plan for next time! Good luck on your project, let us know how it works out.
