how much is too much

One newly hatched chick,no momma chicken..Less than 24 hours old .He chirps till I pick him up then he falls asleep..Is it worse to hold him so he sleeps well or let him chirp in the box and sleep in between chirps ?? It feels so mean to ignore him .

The more attention you give him, the more he is going to demand. Try putting a mirror and a small stuffed animal in with the chick.

Chickens are very social creatures and a lone chick is going to be unhappy without company...yours or another chick. Any chance you can pick him/her up a playmate...or better yet, two?
