how much money have you spent on your setup?

Too much. Too scared to add it all up - but just the coop - no chickens, bators, etc. probably close to $1800.

We got an old playhouse off of craigs-list for free for our first coop and had wood laying around for another project that we used to build and attached run. The chicken wire came from my grandpa's house and didn't cost me a thing. So fuel to haul the house was probably $50 and then supplies like feeders and waterers another $20. Then I got a 8x10 shed on craigs-list for $300 for my 2nd coop and about $350 for fencing, fence posts, hardware, a new heated waterer base and galvanized water and so far 3 weekends worth of work. I will post pics when I get home. This doesn't include the price of the birds or my new obsession with the bator and eggs I got on ebay.

We've been fortunate that we've made our setup mostly out of stuff we already had. It's not the prettiest, but it works great for us and our flock of 9. The chicken coop was once a small greenhouse that my dad built me years ago. Actually, it's more like a potting shed with windows. The run is made out of two 10 x 10 chain link dog kennels that someone gave us. Hubby remodeled the inside of the coop with scrap lumber we had. I think all we have purchased have been the waterers and feeders and the chicks and feed. Our biggest one time expense was the $40 vet bill last week for one of the EE's who was attacked by a hawk. Thankfully we have a vet who does avian work too.

Hi! I know I have spent less than $500 because I was fortunate to have a wooden barn-type shed in the yard that my partner used to use for tools/workshop but I converted half of to coop...I think the key is how big a flock do you really want and that will help limit expenses; also get "cull" lumber from your wood supplier; it does not matter if your lumber is a little warped...us chicken lovers are probably

a little warped too! LOL

I'm in about $1,100 but I want to build another much larger coop in the spring

The cost doesn't bother me because the coop is very well built and will be there for many years. If I wouldn't get slammed with property taxes I probably would have already built a large barn. We put up a large garage a couple of years ago and the tax man couldn't get here fast enough

I can't BEGIN to tally the cost of our pen/ run. It was constructed from scraps of wood, Posts and wire fencing from our garden, The FREE stuff, was the plastic, wrapped on our new modular home, just before it was delivered and set in place here. Rather than dumping the plastic we saved it. It now covers 3 sides of the chicken pen, Top, back, and both ends. We've left the front side open, for our viewing pleasure and access. We did buy three or four rolls of garden fence(chicken wire) 4' x 100' rolls, to try to protect the gardens from rabbits. White-tail Deer just trampled it all down this past summer. No corn for me!

Right around the $1200 mark. I've lost track on how much money I've spent on my dogs and cats (I've probably put at least one of my vet's kids through a few semesters of college...lol), so that's not a lot comparitively...

I haven't really kept up with what I've spent on coops and runs over the years. My latest coop (truck body coop) and run I have about $1000.00 in it and my Hoop Coop I'm at about $500.00 so far.
