I have an coop that's
32" W and 72" L (2' 8" W and 6' L)
along with a run that's
32" W and 304" L (2' 8" W and 25' 4" L).
What would be an appropriate amount of button quail to live in that area?

In general, you shouldn't keep several males in the same enclosure if there are females as well. So if you want both sexes, I'd say a male and 1-3 females. More females might work as well, but I have no personal experience with that. If you have only one sex, I'd say maybe 10 birds - I'm mainly basing this on the size of the coop as there might be times where all birds need to be inside, but I'm taking the run into consideration as enrichment as well. And it'll only work if all birds get along, which they might not. Buttons are monogamous in the wild, they might not be able to form friendly relationships with more than a few birds once mature.

We've just got ourselves a pair of buttons and I read that they need at least 1 sq foot per bird but a pair needs 4 sq feet. They do best in pairs but if they are raised together one male with a few females should be fine as long as they have enough space to get away from each other when they feel they need to. Males will get along in the absence of females as long as they were raised together.
