Hi. I currently have four silkies (1 roo and 3 hens) I am planning on breeding them when the roo grows up. I was just wondering how much run space (metres/feet square) 6-10 silkies need. They are let out for about 2 hours a day and all day Sat and Sun most weekends. The run they are currently in has a small area covered by a verandah and they spend pretty much all day under there even though it is only about 4metres square.
Thanks in advance for any help

Well, some only give bantams about half the space of large fowl, which would be (in the run) about 5 sq. ft. each. So if you had 10 silkies total, that would mean a minimum of 50 sq. ft. of run space. Not sure what that would equate to in metric measure??? Personally, I feel that bantams should have about the same space as bigger birds though, which would be 100 sq. feet.

Silkies do not require much room, if they are large crested. I keep about 15-20 in a 10x10 coop all winter with no outside access. I can usually keep a trio easily in a 4x4 space. Mine may be an exception though, but for mine, the more room they have the more likely they are to not find their way around to getting to the food and water.
