We have 6 pekins. I give them 4cups in the am. Then they free range in and around the pond all day. Then we give them another 4cu before we tuck em in. They devour everything each time I feed them. Should I be feeding more until bugs n grasses get going? We are in south western Ohio.

any other breed free feeding (food available 24/7) is best, if you have jumbo pekin i highly recommend limiting their feed though. my two jumbo pekin boys split 1.5 cup in the morning and 1.5 cup at night, while my 3 smaller ducks free feed

Have you every tried free feeding? Also how do they look skinny healthy or fat?

If I free feed... Will they not eat too much?

I put out 1 cup per pekin in the morning with a few mealworms [with brewer's yeast if I am feeding all flock pellets]. What they don't eat first thing is left in the coop for them. The ducks free-range and one very hungry female will help herself to chicken food at a chicken feeder in the garden. Late afternoon/early evening when I am tucking the ducks into their coop for the night, I again give them a cup each of pellets with a few mealworms. It tends to be a skinny cup each in the evening, if I find they have food over from morning.

AS fort he drakes, the two pekin drakes tend to be excluded from food int he coop by the two larger muscovy drakes. The pekins are now in their own dog crate in the coop at night and each has his own food bowl and water. They also get a cup each pellets in the morning and a further cup each in the evening. They cannot get back into their crates during the day, but if they are hungry they can eat the leftover food in the muscovy bowl. The muscovy drakes never eat a full cup each in the morning. I think that they fill up adequately foraging for bugs and weeds
