How much square ft per chicken?

about how much square footage should i have per chicken ( just the coop not the yard)? dose a front porch with chicken wire and a roof count towards the space per bird(normal sized chickens)?

The numbers that are most used on here are 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 10 sq ft per bird in the run.

Unless they get to free range a lot, I think the bigger the size of the run, the better.

you here 4 sq ft/ bird alot but if they are not in there all the time 2 is acceptable and fine for them. Perhaps even better in winter.

I followed the advice of others and have 4 sq. ft. per chicken in the coop. This has turned out to be good for them on days when they don't want to go outside.

OK cool. thanks, i have enough room for more chickens and will have enough room for a breeder / brooder coop! (one side is blocked / divided off)
