I am finishing up on my first coop build and have a question for you experts.
I am looking at paneling the west end of my coop to block some of the hot Texas sun in the afternoon.
Is this a good idea? How much sun do they need?
Chickens should have access to the sun for at least a few hours a day. However, I think it is wise to block off most of the side, since chickens naturally don't like the hot sun and tend to avoid it most of the day. I would just leave enough room for sun bathing, so they can warm up after cool nights.
Sounds like you are well prepared.
I like the coop!
