I bought some laying chicks but ended up with a broiler. She is huge (probably weighs 10lbs or more @ 5 mo) I know they don't have a long life expectancy, but am trying to make her as comfortable as possible. We built a separate coop attached to the other one where she grew up, to this point, with the other chickens, but felt we needed to separate her and limit her food from the others and allow her to free range during the day for more exercise. How much food should she eat per day to give her the nutrition she needs but not indulge/gain like crazy.
Thanks for any help.

First , let me ask you what are you planning to do with this chicken eventually.??? Reason I am asking is this;; Broilers do not have a long life span, and you already know that. As they grow, they develop all kind of health issues. Many are related to the bones not being able to support the huge mass. There are also other issues that develop that affect the heart and lungs. Broilers are developed to be ideal for the broiler at about 8 weeks. ( give or take ). If you are going to keep her as a pet until she dies naturally. YOU MAY WITNESS A LOT OF PAIN ENDURED. Not suggesting what you should do. but if you know a person that raises chickens to eat them, give her to them.

I have a hard time saying this because I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU IN THIS SITUATION. I only keep pets, and don;t eat them.

WISHING YOU BEST.... AND
