How much to feed?

6 Barred Rock hen chicks - approx 1 week old. Their baby pen is too small for the hanging feeder I have.

I am just trying to minimize the mess (waste) while not leaving them hungry.

I have always fed free choice to young birds.

I do free choice. My chicks will peck at the pieces they drop on the floor of the brooder.

My chicks always have plenty of food and water available. I see them pecking at the pieces that have fallen out of the feeder.
