In order to make some money off of your soaps, How do you determine a good price to sell it at??

I started to keep track of the cost of oils and to calculate out the cost per oz in the whole batch plus the lye....

I don't want to go overboard with a price and not be able to sell any at the farmers market but at the same time, I don't want to loose money....

I'm already in a bind with selling my girls' eggs at a loss... DH won't let me soap for long if I don't turn some sort of profit....

Thanks!!!

The general rule is

Cost X 2 for whole sale
Cost X 4 for retail

You have to taking in account your market and what it will bare, but it is a starting place. A general rule is also $1 per ounce.

My soaps are a little over 4 oz a bar and for years I sold them for $4 each.

Two years ago, I started selling them for $5 each for fragrance oils and $5.50 each for essential oils and couldn't believe it when they sold faster than when they were priced cheaper.

I also have a buy 5 for $20 for my regular customers who have bought for years and always multiple soaps at a time.

Thanks!!!

I'll have to do some calculations and see how many ozs my bars actually are....
