I'm talking about "regular" chickens, not show birds. From hatcheries such as Ideal, Meyers, McMurray, Cackle, Privett, etc.
I have never spent more than about $85, but this year my list is going to be over $100, because I am ordering more layers than usual, and also a couple of different bantam breeds. I am planning to order the following from Ideal:
25 Pullets from the Plymouth Rock Asst.
4 Cockerels from the Rock Asst. (pick the best 2 roosters for the flock, eat the others)
4 Easter Egger pullets (already have a lonely roo)
4 Bantam Cochin Asst.
8 OEGB Asst.
+ Shipping and handling, will be about $115.

Just wondering what was normal for each person to spend ordering chicks!

I just bought 3 chicks from Meyer. Including shipping, I think it was $42.00. I consider my chickens pets, so $15.00 apiece is extremely reasonable for a pet.

FWIW, Meyer sent an extra chick with my order. So, in the end, they were only $10.50 each.

$2.25 per chick from the feed store they all were pullets.total of $11.25. starter is $.35 per pound. no shipping charge.

Depends on how bad I want them.
