Yeah, I kinda doubt those hens are still thirsty, some 5 years later.

You can get any size bucket or barrel and keep it outside of the coop and then route in pvc or tubing to fill your waterer cups. It allows you to have a large source of water and not take up any of the chicken's room. Plus you spend less time filling and cleaning since it is a contained system so there is nowhere for that nasty green growth to start up.

I'd highly suggest making a chicken nipple waterer.

I have 11 layers. I took a 5 gallon bucket and added a pipe and nipples out the bottom. This is some work in the beginning.

HOWEVER,

I add 2 gallons of water or more as needed on the weekend. The bucket has a lid which rests on the top.

I only have to clean my waterer once every month or 2. It gets no dander, poop, feather, shaving or such in it. It wastes no water. I makes it where I only have to maintain the water on the weekend when I feel like it. It is like the visa commercials, being able to just collect eggs and check on chickens 6 days a week..... Priceless. Being able to go away for the weekend without getting a sitter .... Priceless Less cleaning..... you get the idea.
