We got our first ducklings about 4 weeks ago, 6 Pekin & 4 Kacki. How much water should they require a day, they seem to drink what they want then play & make a total mess once they are hydrated. I don't want them getting dehydrated but don't want the living in 6 inches of water constantly either. I have been changing bedding daily & it's soaked, ussally filling waterer (1 gallon sized) 2 times a day. They are slobs compared to chicken chicks.

i havent gotten my ducks yet .... BUT from what ive researched. if they are provided w a head NARE dunking jug- like a gallon jug w holes cut in it or a butter bowl w holes cut in it they can dip their face and clean it in there and NOT in the waterer ... they still may play in the water.. after all they are ducks. they are messy. esp compared to chicks. ( i have 15 chicks and am getting 4 ducks in 3 days :) ) so mess is to be expected . but i feel ya , maybe try the jugs instead of JUST the waterer. that could be what all the mess is from

o and you can place a tray under that jug to catch the water w a towel or paper towels in it . thats what im going to do :)

they should get as much as they want . they need it to eat especially . at your ducklings age i have heard you can take it away at night tho. thats what i plan to do to .

Oh I used to have that problem...I use a tubberware container...I will post pics so you can see what I do

I now put a pizza pan under it to catch any water that does fly out :) no more wet bedding.

I use the gallon jug with holes cut into it. Still a little messy, but much better than an open bowl. I love that thing, and after the ducks quit pecking at the container and learned to stick their heads through the hole it works great.
