Hello all,

First time poster here. Just wondering how much yogurt is OK to give your flock? We have three very hearty birds who are all laying and they have had yogurt before....but this morning I brought them out a container that was maybe about half full (so maybe 14 oz). It's plain, organic yogurt.

Once I got back in the house, I realized it might be a bit much for three birds.

Thoughts?

They will eat about anything and everything...I just usually don't have a half container of yogurt laying around but my husband accidentally left it out for an hour and it's for our toddler so I'm pretty careful about what she eats.

Thanks!!

I wouldn't worry about it once in a while. The yogurt will give them probiotics, protein, vitamins but maybe a little too much calcium if they're already getting layer feed.

Yes, they are omnivores, and scavengers.

Okay here's another related Q - they ate it all but they got yogurt all over themselves and their combs. Should I be concerned? Should I try to clean them off with a wet paper towel and then dry it off?

We live in MN where it is very frigid (although it's warming)...tonight will be 20 degrees or so. Thanks!!
