Yesterday they were in the garage, lol...today lots of shade and ice as the temps climb to 109+ again!

They are in the shade of their new pretty beach umbrella (because pretty is important!) and playing in front of fans in their ice bath. I found the umbrella on clearance for $24.99 and it is working so well I am going on the hunt for a few more. Even though we are putting a porch on the coop this summer, these umbrellas will be perfect for our expanded run in both the summer and winter since I have not planted any trees around the area yet. I'm going to cement them into tubs this weekend as we pour cement for the fence poles so the wind doesn't blow it over and rip my netting.

They have been taking turns walking and laying in the ice tub as you can see from the dirty ice

WOW - that's amazing they walk right on the ice! I put some frozen broccoli in their feed pan, and they ran to the other end of the run.

My chickens wouldn't go into a pan of water. So I filled a "under the bed box" with chip and then partly full of water--so it is like a mud puddle. I'm going to stick a frozen water bottle in there for them. They like it!

Great ideas! And a fan to boot! Too bad I wont be using any of those great ideas tho. Its been one of the coolest summer here I can ever remember. Only 1 day I can remember in the 90's this summer!! So go ahead and send some of that heat this way!!

And stay cool!

We use a big industrial shop fan that will knock ya down if you get too close. It keeps everything cool as cucumbers

My chickens love to dig holes in the woods when it is really hot though over the fan blowing.

There is a pic on my BYC page of how we reallllllly keep our chickies cool though

Nice work. I hope they give you lots of eggs. I have a few pine trees and a walnut tree they hang out under. I just hosed down their shady spots and they seem to appreciate it.

DANG it's hot though!
