I thought I was being so smart. Last summer I hauled the refrigerator from my mother's house(she passed away 3 hrs ago) over here and put it in the garage specifically to store eggs. Was working out good until this week when I realized "Hey refrigerators are meant to keep things cold, not to keep them warm!" The temperature in the garage at this point was 8* and the outside temperatures had only been above 32 for two days in the last 2 weeks. I also had 19 dozen eggs out there. So this afternoon I got out the hand truck and schlepped the refrigerator through 5 inches of snow, through the cellar door and installed it in the cellar--something I probably should have done in the first place. The good news is that while the temperature inside the refrig was 28, the eggs seem ok: at least if any are frozen they haven't cracked. At some point I'll crack a few to fry them up to make sure they're ok. Had some apples and pears out there too and they don't seem frozen either so may have come alert soon enough. Some time you can outsmart yourself with what seems like a good idea at the time.
