They will also make a simular trilling sound when they are happy also. Must be a subtle difference in the sounds. Don't reach down on them when trying to catch them either, it triggers a defense from hawks,etc. Try to reach from the side for them amd scoop them up.

when i first started with chickens it became clear very quickly that one, two, ten was not going to be enough so i settled on trying to have one of each color. boy,, theres alot of colors out there. i was satisfied with what i had finally, and then they got sick. they are better now and i seen a tolbunt polish today and its all i can think of. gotta get one of those! hahaha thats pretty obsessive
