How often? (CHANGING THE SHAVINGS IN THE BROODER)

After one day, there is an average amount of poop in the brooder. There are 5 chicks in a brooder the size of a medium dog crate. How oftern should I change the shavings? Thanks.

I change mine about once a week. I pick out as much poop as I can with a little plastic spoon during the week as well, but this usually doesn't help. It's sort of zen though, so whatev.

I change mine about once every week or week and half just depends on my time schedule and how it looks.

For 5 chicks once a week should be enough with sprinkling add'l shavings on top as needed.

I have 23 chicks in my brooder

so I was forced to go with the deep litter method (just adding shavings and DE as needed).

It works, and I don't have to worry about changing it till I move them out to the coop (which, hopefully, will be next week).
