how often do i need to clean??

so is pine shavings better than using staw for bedding in going deep i was gonna go straw but if pine is better i will use that i have pine in my brooder box and it worked well just thought that worked for chicks in brooders

Ive read this in a book, and on many websites.

About the pine, I have never used pine, ever seince i have had my chickens ive always used straw in the coop, with pullets/chicks

, ive always used pine shavings.. the straw seems to work good as long as you rake out there droppings atleast every other day. i rake it every day.

And nesting boxes, plenty of nesting spots. My chickens will only use one at a time though, we have four hens, and two nesting boxes next to each other, but while one hen is in a box, another one that wants in will just sit outside the coop (they are free range) and squawk, they won't use both at the same time.

is there a way to get them to use more then one nesting box? and if i have 12 to 18 hens how many nesting boxes should i have??( i don't have the hens yet)
