How often do new layers lay?

I have pullets that are coming of age. I got an egg on the 18th and then another on the 21st. I assumed the first came from my Golden Comet because she had been squatting for a few weeks. I watched her lay the second egg and it looks nothing like the first. That made me think maybe I have two laying. My GC has been in the corner for two days like she was going to lay but then doesn’t and gets up. So, my first question is, if they came from two birds, why has the first bird not laid again? Second is, why is my GC laying in the corner for 10-15 minutes like she is going to lay and then just gets up?

Eggs from new layers can look completely different day to day in my experience. Also my first hen to lay took 8 days between her first and second egg!

Sometimes it takes a bit for their systems to get in rythem. Laying in a nest without laying an egg is not unusual for a new layer. I would guess your eggs to be from 2 hens. Bloom and shade can be different for the first two eggs, but it looks like 2 shell colors.

Yes the one is tan and the other is light with dark speckles and it has a rough texture. Do you think the roo hovering over her when she’s trying to lay would disrupt things?
