How often do people debeak their chickens?

You know, he said they're 9-10 months old, and all I can do is take his word for it. Is there any way to guestimate the age of a hen by looking at her?

He said they're laying well, too. Today we got 1/5. That's after the stress of relocating yesterday. I suppose time will tell if I made a really poor choice.

None of my girls are debeaked. I don't like the way it looks and would rather use other means to discourage pecking. My neighbor's chickens came from an ag supply store as pullets and they were debeaked. They are happy and healthy (tho one died and was replaced.) They look like they have fish-lips in my opinion. I saw some pullets and roos for sale at the same store that had severely swollen and scaly legs, so I don't know how well they treat their birds. I wouldn't buy birds from them.

This is horrifying and inhumane.
If more towns allow raising backyard chickens and small flocks, eventually I'd hope it puts out of business these overcrowded farms
