How Often Do They Lay

I received an Australorp of Monday. On Tuesday she gave us an egg. We have yet to see another from her. Is this normal? Do they lay every day?

some hens lay every day and some hens lay every couple days i have a hen that lays an egg once a day and one of my hens lay an egg every couple of days just watch and make sure she does not go too long with out laying

the first egg is very eggciting lol my first egg was from my white leghorn and she has always been my best layer

You say you just brought her home on Monday? She's taking some time off because of the stress of the move. chickens don't like change, and something like moving to a new home can cause them to stop laying for a time. She should start back up in a week or two.

Ok. I figured she would take a few days off, but we were surprised with an egg from her the first day here. That's why I got concerned.
