Hi,
I was wondering if any of you knew the average amount a White Rock hen lays a week.. I am looking into getting two new hens, and one breed I really like is the Rhode Island Red. I am also intrested in the White Rock, but I can't find how often they produce. It would be great if someone could let me know! :)

Thanks in advance. :)

There are many different strains, so it is hard to generalize.

A heritage bred White Rock (rare as hen's teeth) will only lay 3 or 4 per week. She'll be a long life layer, however, laying steadily for 6 years or even a bit more. She'll be of good body size and calm, and even can go broody.

A hatchery White Rock, depending on strain, will be more production oriented and lay quite well, 4-5 eggs a week. Not likely to go broody, however, as this is discouraged in hatchery strains. Some strains from hatcheries can be very large bodied birds, as some folks have been pumping up the size in recent years.

I love the White Rock. While I have some heritage Barred Rocks, I look forward to getting some true bred, pure, heritage White Rocks next spring. Gonna have to get on a waiting list though. There are very, very few of them hatched each year.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I have my eyes on some RIRs and WRs on Craigslist right now, I'm hoping they don't sell out before I get to them. :) (I also have a Barred Rock.. She's the nicest of the flock!) This helps me a lot, I appreciate it!
