How often do you candle?

Used to I'd candle at least 3 times. On this batch I decided I'm not going to candle until day 18/19.

I candled a few more this morning. I could see the air cell, but that's it.

I candled a lot the first time, trying to understand what I was looking at. Then sat down and looked at all the great pics posted on BYC to compare.

I candle 3 times or more ANd I sink at candling But I'm getting better. I mostly use it to determine if the air cell is developing properly! That I can see!

I wish we could've chosen multiple options- I candle obsessively, but I do suck at it. I think. Or, my eggs are too dark- my green EE are just about impossible to see through other than the air sac, and sometimes some veining.

I've just used a mini led flashlight and my hand, but maybe I'll try it tonight and use a toilet paper roll too.

Hi! Make yourself a coffee-can (or something similar) candler. Then you won't stink at candling anymore.

I use a flourescent bulb and have the can sitting upright instead of sideways so the egg can sit on top (less chance of me dropping an egg). I swap out the bulb sometimes for a 'high watt' incandescent bulb, but they get hot so fast.

I candle on day 6 and 18.. other then that... I try to forget em so I don't drive myself nuts..
