How often do you change your duck pool water?

Im a rather new duck mom and had to wrangle kiddie pools from the kids and dog this week as the temperatures in the Rheinland soar! Dont worry, the humans and dog have a people pool. In a pinch for time but having lots of stuff around from renovating an old house, I put two pools up side by side...and some paver stones leading to an old hallway floor we took out a few years back. For the past few nights, Ive been using the old water to soak a few potted plants in there, and the kids use it to water plants. I notice that a lot evaporares during the day. I end up usually adding water each mornong to top it off, but i havent been completely removing all the gunk each day. After reading these posts, 3 days seems like a good time to get rid of leaves and mud and stuff. I guess my water is a bit dirtier because i dip some plants in there. If the ducks arent in bed yet when Im watering plants, they think this is fantastic! Here was the scene at 6.30 am today. Its a work in progress. Everyone posted some great ideas that i might have to try as my duck world develops!

We have a kiddie pool and this beach area for our geese, ducks, and I guess Turkeys. They would much rather have the kiddie pool with no shade. However, they love it too much so we won’t get rid of the pools and force them to use this. 😂. We change our pools every morning at 7 and evening at 5.

Where in the world did you get the sign made? That's hilarious!

I change mine about once a week. Large pool with 3 adult ducks. I'm on a spring, so dumping and refilling a large kiddie pool just takes to much water :( I top it off every day, and take some out for the garden, but only 5 gallons or so.

On cleaning day, I use an aquarium syphon to get most of the water out, then dump and rinse. I have a couple big rocks in the pool for them to stand on, and a ramp for them to get in. I trained them to use the ramp by herding them in/out for several days till they got it figured out.

This makes me think that a sign could be an essential, must-have duck world item! Wonderful! Just curious...do the turkeys go in?

I change my water every night as well. The water is like miracle grow on plants. I wouldn't worry about them using the ramp, they will figure it out if they want it. I would put a brick or block on the inside of the pool for them to step on to get out.
I have plant watering hard plastic sides, and also use stones, one inside one outside, if a small chicken gets in it also gives it a safer place rather than leaving it to drown, I have lost 2 chicks so far one in a normal bucket I am changing them to low ones, and use plant trays for watering for the little ones to avoid any more losses.
Sonetimes in cooler weather I can go a couple of days but I have several watering options so they can avoid dirtier water, but ducks can have clean water right next to them and still go for the dirtier water, but nasties take a while to develop so I tend to agree you cannot keep it pure clean, but the extra buckets give them option for cleaning their bills without using water they just pooped in! Old tyres help stabilise the buckets, and allow the chickens a safer foothold
