How often do you clean your coop?

used to clean regularly like weekly, now i use deep litter method and clean it about oce every six months and i may extend it to nine. i can not believe how amazing the deep litter method it. changed my life! and my chickens. make sure you get some DE to mix into the litter and you are good to go!

I use the deep litter method also. I got my new coop(4'x8') 6-5-10 and have not had to clean it yet. No smell. I have plenty of ventilation and the chickens only stay in it at night. This winter might be a different story though since they stayed indoors quite a bit last winter. I also only have six chickens so that helps.

8x12 coop, 15 hens, they spend the day free-ranging. I have a thin layer of shavings on the floor, sprinkled with DE and stall-dry (I have horses, and always have bags of it around). Each morning I scrape the droppings boards / roosts. I completely clean the bedding about once every 3/4 weeks. Since the hens grew up, I have no flies ANYWHERE on the farm. They keep the manure pile clean, the paddock, and you gotta feel sorry for anything that makes it into the coop with wings!! Love those henley's!!

I don't have anything on the floor of the coop for most of the year. The birds perch at night in there and are out free ranging all day.

I do a daily scrape with a fish slice and a shovel, takes under 5 minutes. Glad to say we don't have a lot of insect trouble and almost no smell,

Sandie
