Just wondering, I have noticed differences from post to post.

Please answer the following…

How many Birds?
Adult, adolescent, chicks?
Small or Medium or large breed?
What is the total length of your roost?
What is the size of the coop?
How often do you clean it?

Thanks!!

sussex pen at the moment:
11 good-sized LF adult birds
about 12' roost length total, over two separate roosts
cleaned every morning, takes much less than a minute
pen is 7x20
I add floor bedding every few months as needed, replace the dirtier/dustier parts of the floor bedding
about once a year, that's about all the cleaning I need to do thanks to the droppings boards.

'hen pen' at the moment:
7 LF adult birds
6' roost with no droppings board under it b/c I really need to rebuild it so I *can* put a droppings board in
pen is 6x15'
I shovel out piled poo under roost maybe 1-2x/months, as needed, should probably do it more often
would much rather have a droppings board, really need to rebuild roost to have one

I have 19 11-week old BO's. Total length of the roosts is about 20 feet, they do have poop boards under. I sprinkle wood shavings on the poop board every day and completely clean the poop board every other day. Smell is manageable. They spend most of the day free roaming outside.

How many Birds? 3
Adult, adolescent, chicks? Adult Hens
Small or Medium or large breed? 1 medium and 2 Large, see my signature
What is the total length of your roost? just under 4 ft
What is the size of the coop?4 W x 4 L with 3 levels in the coop, plus an outdoor run
How often do you clean it? almost daily under the roosts

I keep newspaper under my roost instead of a scraping board. I pull it out to clean and shred it into the compost.

How many Birds?12
Adult, adolescent, chicks?adult hens
Small or Medium or large breed? medium layers
What is the total length of your roost? 12' x 18" platform
What is the size of the coop? 130 sq ft
How often do you clean it? I clean the dropping board every morning, sprinkle with a little food-drade DE and spot clean at night.
I should add that I'm retired and that if I had been working full-time things might be different.

I have five bantams in a 4 by 4 coop that they stay in only at night. I'm using a droppings pan under the roost that I scrape out and wash every morning. I have sand in the rest of the coop and scoop up the stray poo that gets in the sand every morning. Takes only a minute, and keeps things fresh.
