How often do you pump your septic tank?

There only the 2 of us here on the property and it has been 4 years since we moved in and the septic tank was pumped then. How often do you do yours? Or any other advise that you may have to offer. Sorry about the poopy subject matter, but everyone is so helpful here.

the state makes use do it every 3 years, if it need it or not, before we only pumped it when full like every 5-6 years or more even 10, a family of 5

We've been here five years, and never had it pumped. I went to have it done, and our neighbors told us don't waste your money, they haven't had theirs pumped in probably 15 years, and they have not had any problems. So, we didn't and it seems OK, occasionally I put in some Rid-X

It has been 8 yrs. since we have done it. Family of 5 here. My DH put the septic in and we have the larger tank. It should be ready for another pumping soon.
Dragonfly , I think you should be okay if there is just 2 of you. Unless, you go through a lot of TP and have a garbage disposal. How big is your tank?

A properly working septic system shouldn't have to be pumped.

We've lived on this property for 5 years in July and we had it pumped in June. We have 1500gal tanks and it was full. There is only 2 of us as well. So I think next time will be 4 1/2 years to be on the safe side.

Ha we rented a house and he forgot to get it pumped before we moved in and we lived there happily for almost 4 years and then all the toilets and stuff started to flush really really slowly and the tub started draining really slowly - when they went to pump it out it was packed in there so tight buddy had to shovel it loose and hose it loose - EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW

Every 2-3 years. It's just good maintenance, but our drainfield also has a tendency to freeze in the winter, so we try to keep the tank pumped.
