How often do you pump your septic tank?

Vinegar isn't bad. Bleach and such is bad. If you aren't pouring cups full down the drain it is diluted and has little effect.

Many do it yourself home cleansers use vinegar.

BAck in 1992 when my parents got it pumped it was around $150 dollars and it did fill up their truck tank.

I would not be surprised if they are much higher nowadays.

Thank you everyone for the great responses. We were feeling the same thing about not having it pumped but wanted to see what others thought. The kitchen sink as a strainer in the drain ALL the time and is emptied into the garbage. I only us the disposal to clear the small stuff that get beyond the strainer. Probably use the average amount of TP not a lot.

Unfortunately, the previous owner did not share the size but did disclose that the leach fields had just been replaced or worked on - can't remember exactly.

We heard at one time that you should flush some yeast down the toilet to help keep things balanced. Anyone ever heard of that?

Never heard of the yeast idea.

We use only Scott TP (the thin stuff, labeled safe for septics), elected not to install a disposal in the kitchen on account of the septic, and are careful not to put a lot of bleach down the drain.

Had a family of 5 here for years- now down to us 2. So far so good.

My family ownes a sanitation service and recommends every 2-3yrs to keep your septic tank working properly.Don't wait to you see a problem because by then it's to late, the damage is done. They have been in buisness for 50 years so you can trust that

I've only been here for 4 years and have never pumped it. The last place was for almost 20 years and never pumped there either. I don't know if my being deployed a bunch of times in that 20 years helped or hurt the system, though. But it always worked fine when I got back.
