How often do you pump your septic tank?

I guess I'll call the "You dump it,,We pump it" company and see what they charge. It's been 12 yrs. We use a product called "Roebec" once in a while....it's similar to Rid-ex.

We had our septic tank pumped after 12 years. I guess there are a lot of factors that affects on the frequency of septic tank pumping . I would suggest to ask your local plumbing guys to have a look. Just to be sure.

We had ours pumped last fall, stupid leech lines rusted through. Its a very old system. It costs $150 to have it dug and pumped here. If you dig and bury the company knocks the price down to $100. My fiance chose to dig it himself can't beat saving $50.

We have it done every year because all our faucets (kitchen, bath, laundry..) go into it. Never had a problem yet... but i do use bleach a lot....
So...

Costs us about $200 to get it pumped...

Depends on the size of the tank and the number of people. I have my septic service guys look at the levels when they change the filters every six months. I would say every 3-5 years. Now my neighbor hasn't pumped his in about 10 or more years, and I can only hope his toilet deposits are not leaking into my yard.

My house as far as we knew had NEVER had it pumped and it's 30+ years old. Maybe they did it before the last owners, so that's 12 years minimum. We had it pumped when we moved in and inspected and everything seemed fine (knock on wood). We were horrified that it had never been pumped, as we had never had a septic tank, but peeps around here seem to think it's no big deal. It's a huge house and there's only two of us, so I guess we don't give it much of a workout.

We've lived in our home for 46 years. 4 people for the first 20 years or so. Only the Princess and I since then. We've had our tank pumped twice in that time period. No garbage disposal, but the washing machine does empty into the septic system.
