I see that the NIH agrees with you. As it happens I'm seen my internist next week and I will discuss it with him. In my experience a small amount of Vaseline on a newly attached tick will cause the tick to back out it will not kill it. For years we used a tick loop to remove wood ticks from our dogs with great success. Recently very small ticks appeared on the property and they cause a lot of problems for us. They do not attach to the dogs because the dogs where Seresto collars which are very effective. Unfortunately humans may not wear Seresto collars.
In my experience, it is not irritating it is almost debilitating. A tick bite creates so much pain for me personally that I can't concentrate on much of anything else for a long time. I do not have a low pain threshold, quite the contrary. I did not always have this reaction to ticks but I have developed a strong sensitivity to some component of their head or whatever it is that is left behind. For me personally I really cannot take that chance. But I certainly will discuss it with my doctor. I do thank you for bringing my attention to this.
