How often should we change the corn cobs

Sorry to post a question that I'm sure has been posted a thousand times, but Search isn't giving me useful results.

We have 6 chicks. The first few days we had them in a small brooder on paper towel, and we changed the paper towel two or three times a day.

Now they are in a 3' x 6' pen. They have clean food and water. We have them on corn cob litter (nice stuff, but very expensive). My wife and I are debating how often the litter needs to be changed (at $10 per change). She's worried about disease.

There's no smell, and it doesn't even look messy. I say the corn cobs can go a couple of weeks. Especially if we pick out some of the mess.

Opinions?

is there a reason u have to use corn bedding?
whats wrong with pine shavings? a whole lot cheaper, but to answer your ? i woulndt change it till you have a noticible odor, or the bedding is wet?
with 6 chicks that could be a while

I use corn cob too but only inside with my parrots. In the coop I use pine shavings. much cheeper and as long as your clean it does not smell either. same outcome just ALOT cheaper.

I guess I spend a lot because I use paper towels until they are 4 weeks old, then I have a pen for them at night and they free range an area of the yard.
