How often to clean the run?

This will be my first year keeping chickens (due to arrive in May). I will have three hens. I have a small coop and an attached enclosed run of about 10 feet. I plan to use pine shavings in the coop and construction sand as the base of the run. Question: how often will I need to clean the sand in the run? Is it a scoop-and-sift kind of thing that needs to be done weekly? Thanks for any advice.

I have 4 hens and sand in the run 10x10 kennel, I clean it once a week usually a Saturday project, I use a big cat litter scoop from the dollar store and it only takes about 10 minutes, I get everything I can see and then run a rake around to get everything that got scratched in the sand.
