Hi All,
Well I went over this afternoon and Mum was off the nest again and baby was lying on it's back amongst the eggs. I thought it was dead, so I went to remove it but then noticed it was breathing ever so slightly. I brought it back to the house and nursed it, warmed it up, gave it some water from a dropper and after a while it seemed to get stronger. Just a few moments ago, it took some liquid which was basically a mixture of water, honey and chick grower. It seems like it is getting stronger and is getting better at standing and sitting normally - it wanted to stand completely upright and would go over backwards all the time. Even if I put my hand on it's back, it would press itself so hard into my hand with the back of it's body - almost like it was looking for that familiar sensation of the egg against it. Anyway, it was pretty messy when I brought it over, most of it's feathers are stuck together with mess (so much for not s*#@ing in your own nest!) If the little one gets stronger I think I will try to wash it off with warm water, as I am sure it would do better insultaion wise if it could fluff itself up properly.
Looks like I might have a baby chicken to raise! Not exactly what I had planned, but as funny looking as it is right now - it is very cute and seems to have bonded to me.
I will try to attach a pic
