Hello,
Just wondering when Red,Amherest pheasants start to change somewhat in coloring so I can tell if I have males or females. I hatched them this spring and would only like to keep the males. I will try to post pix later. Once I figure out what sex they are is this the best place to get rid of the birds I don't want. The eggs I hatched are from China's bloodline. Also is it hard to ship birds?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

First, the Amhersts you should be able to tell already. The hens' eyes will stay a deep brown and the males' will start to lighten. My cocks are starting to change already. They are starting to develop their "capes" and the tail feathers are turning white.

You could always send your "extras" to me!

My red & yellow goldens and amhearsts are all starting to show a little color and the eyes are a give-away at this point. You can also check for spurs. The cocks should have a good start on spurs while the hens will not.

I seem to have hatch a lot more males than females this year.

In some cases you may not really see it much until next year. I have two Amhersts that are the same age and one is much more developed (color-wise) than the other.
