How old are these hens?

The hens that I rescued laid the second day I brought them in! I was really surprised! They stopped after they started moulting and haven't laid since, but the second group of hens I got from a different place, they started laying immediately as well and they've been laying since every day (their plumage was in a pretty good shape). It's pretty incredible. :)
Mine was in terrible shape. Though not anywhere near as bad as your in this thread. She had scaly leg mites, all the way up her legs was stained with poo and mud, and her beak is clipped so far back. Her feathers also aren't in very good condition.

Damn... Sorry to hear that. :( I am glad she got back to shape! Thank you for giving her a second chance!

I have 6 hens, all of them ex-battery. Two died sadly about two weeks after I brought them in.
That sucks. I'm sorry for your loss. Mine isn't doing so great, either. She'd got some respiratory problems and has stopped laying.

Sorry to hear that :( One of my hens had or is still having some on and off respiratory issues - I was at the vet with her, got her share of antibiotics. Some weeks after, I could still hear her drawing in breath with some occasional "sneezing", especially in the morning (not during the day). I haven't heard her breathing audibly for a while now though and she is looking like a hen model from a calendar. :D Transformed into an amazing looking hen. Hopefully, the respiratory thing is gone, or at least it's not anything serious. As far as I know, she is not laying, though I found an egg not long ago that could've been hers potentially.

They asked me one euro for each, O N E E U R O !!! What can you buy with one euro? quite little. On the other hand with one euro you can buy a heart, a brain, two lungs, two eyes, two wings, etc. etc. and even sympathy, affection, the joy of living and lying in the sun without fear and discomfort. In short, with one euro you can buy a lot... :love

Oh wow, that's even less than I paid - my first hens were bought for 35 CZK each (which is about 1,3 EUR), and the ones I got, later on, I bought for twice as much I believe. It's crazy how a low price can someone put on a life of such a wonderful creature.

They are really small compared to the other hens. So is it just the way it is for these particular birds? The fact they are flopped over is normal right?

They are fully regrowing their feathers at the moment as they were featherless when I rescued them from a commercial poultry house where they were mistreated. This is how one of the hens looked like about 3 weeks ago.

This girl just visited me this morning. 😍 Her feathers are almost fully regrown. 😊
