Hey all. I was curious about my new little over a year "Java" I am trying my best taking care of. So far all is well. I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about their talking. Like when it begins. Is it like a turkey and loud noises set them off. Mine has not made the first "cry" or whatever it is called. That is good because I heard they rarely do it. Thats one of the reasons I wanted to keep the greens. I also dont mine your sharing on when you find your other colored peacocks "pumping up the volume" But please state what kind you have so I at least know wether its a green or another type Thanks Shawn

My IB male started calling at a year but i have some that are 9 months old and noticed they are trying to make the call , it is funny as all get out, reminds me of when a young rooster is learning to crow.

When my oldest peacock calls i call back and but he always has the last call. LOL

So most all of any kind peacocks Its pretty much you have to have to have a girl to make em crow then?
My oldest male walks around by himself calling and i call back to him sometimes and he has one tiny eye feather.
I lost a male a while back and he had a full train and i never once heard him do the mating call, i am beginning to think this is not a mating call at all ,
They don't need a hen to make the call.

pure green don't breed as soon as blues, so would think the call would take longer.

now i dont raise greens, but been told by other hens some don't breed till 3

I went to the auction yesterday and got 60 bobwhite for raising and eating. Well they must have made him happy with their calling cause today was his very first crowing early this morning! It was pretty good I thought for a little over one year old green. I loved it and it wasnt too crazy loud for the neighbors. I would of course get rid of him if anyone complains. I dont think they will as I have always invited people to see my birds and I keep them all stocked with fresh fish. Bribery
